We have decided to introduce "Artist Of The Month", to give members the opportunity of introducing themselves and their work to our site visitors.

Artist of The Month, March 2008

Rob Henry

Living in Cairneyhill, Rob came to Fife from the Scottish Borders and is currently working with Fife Council.

Rob joined the Dunfermline Art Club in September 2006 and found that it was the motivational boost needed to get back into painting, as over the years, finding time for painting was always difficult. Rob commented on the Art Club saying "the good thing about Dunfermline Art Club is that it does not matter what your level of experience or skill is, everyone helps each other, and this was obvious on Saturday the 8th of March at the "Come and Paint Day". It was a fantastic experience to be involved with a group of people with one objective and no competition to be the best".

Starting drawing as a teenager Rob managed to get Higher Art at school, with most of his experience self taught. Coming from an Engineering backround, and drawing everything in "Black and White", Rob has always thought of himself as a "copiest", i.e. trying to replicate directly from photographs, but after joining the club and being inspired by other Club members and workshops, this view has started to change. Some of his most succesful works have been produced in pastels, and he finds that this is his preferred medium, although he also works with other mediums, producing a variety of compositions such as his wonderful Acrylic painting "The Gate" which is one of the selections for the Clubs 2009 Calendar.

In the last few months Rob has been working in acrylics to try and develop paintings of local West Fife landscapes. He prefers not to paint the usual "Culross" or "Dunfermline Abbey" scenes, preferring to capture views of the Forth around Crombie Point and the Ochils.

Last year Rob was thrilled to be asked to do a picture for a raffle prize for Maggie's Centre at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy. Overall the Raffle raised a total of Four Hundred Pounds.

Asked if he had any favourite picture he has painted over the years, Rob has selected "The Puffins", "Shane" and "Ziyi Zhang" which can be viewed amongst the selection in Robs' Gallery.

Favourite Artist: "David Shepherd". The "Man who paints Elephants". Certainly someone to aspire to.
