I started drawing and painting at an early age alongside my Grandpa. He always carried a board and his paintbox when we went for walks. As he sketched I would dabble alongside him. I took Art as a Higher subject at school and went on to do a Sixth Year study working with wools and threads. At teacher training college I took Art as a subject once more. Here I tried out oils, clay and sculpture. I later did a Spinning course and a City and Guilds course in Ceramics. Full time Primary teaching and raising a family inevitably put paid to very much in the way of painting – high days and holidays! Art and Craft has run a thread through my life, but it’s watercolour that is my first love. I inherited Grandpa’s paintbox and brushes, and it is these I still use today. Since retiring I have settled in Fife and I joined I Dunfermline Art Club in 2019. Everyone has been very welcoming and helpful. It’s lovely to see others work and learn from them. I have grown in confidence since becoming a member and now regularly show my work in the Kingsgate Gallery.
